Fitness New Zealand releases Kids in Gyms guidance
Fitness New Zealand has just released the final version of the Children's in Exercise Facilities guidelines (often known as 'Kids in Gyms').
Introducing the guidelines, FitnessNZ Chairman Jim Bagle stated "much thanks must go to Dr Robbie Parker, who chaired the steering group and the expert panel, along with SPARC and ACC who funded the development of the guidelines together with FitnessNZ.
"We are very pleased with the final outcome of this process (as) we now have clear guidelines for exercise facilities wishing to have children under 16 use their facilities, and a process for ensuring persons working with children are both adequately trained, and also undergo annual checks through the NZ Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)."
In addition to the guidelines for facilities, a guide for parents has also been developed.
Both the guidelines and the parent's guide are available from the FitnessNZ website at www.www.fitnessnz.co.nz
