Expansion of redevelopment of Resorts World Genting
Malaysian gambling and resorts group Genting has announced it will be significantly expanding its previously announced redevelopment of its Resorts World Genting property near Kuala Lumpur.
Under the terms of the amended Genting Integrated Tourism Plan (GITP), the Genting Group has announced that it will increase its total capital investment from MYR5 billion (US$1.2 billion) to an estimated MYR10.3 billion ($2.5 billion).
GITP, a major 10-year master plan launched in December 2013 for the redevelopment and transformation of Resorts World Genting, Malaysia’s only licensed casino operation, is currently being carried out in phases.
Late last year the group announced that the planned opening of first Twentieth Century Fox theme park at Resorts World Genting was being delayed until 2017 as a result of a decline in the value of Malaysia’s currency.
The redevelopment will offer an extensive and wide array of new and exciting entertainment options, unique to visitors from across the region, with the Twentieth Century Fox World theme park at its core.
A statement from Genting on the increase in investment stated that it will offer “more spectacular, thrilling and state-of-the-art rides” than previously announced.
The statement added “with the engagement of some of the best talent in the Hollywood movie-industry to help in the design of the park, this is targeted to become a unique and compelling theme park.
“Meanwhile the indoor theme park will undergo a major transformation, turning into a unique themed entertainment attraction offering a total of 18 rides from the existing nine, providing a new and enjoyable entertainment for both young and old alike.”
Genting’s expanded investment plan will also see the development of the Sky Avenue shopping mall, which will feature open air decks and a range of retail and dining options; 8,000 additional car park bays; and a new high-speed cable car system.
Resorts World Genting is located in the country’s Highlands region
Genting Malaysia also operates resorts and casinos in the United Kingdom, the United States and the Bahamas as well as the highly profitable Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.
