Events sponsorship helps keep Melbourne vibrant

A mid-summer Japanese festival, a harmony celebration in Carlton and an African Music and Cultural Festival are the among the latest successful applicants for the City of Melbourne’s Events Partnership Program.

With the latest round of the program helping to fund 22 events, Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle explained “these events play a crucial role in celebrating the many diverse groups and cultures which make up our city.

“Over the past 10 years our Events Partnership Program has contributed more than $7 million dollars in cash sponsorship for more than 500 events which draw people in to our city and support our economy.”

Nite Art founder Deborah Stahle, whose event received sponsorship in the last round of the program, said the Event Partnership Program played an important role in promoting unique and creative events across Melbourne.

Stahle stated “the City of Melbourne has been with Nite Art from the beginning in 2013, when we were just an idea to bring life to the city at night.

“The partnership goes way beyond funding and the support we have received from right across the organisation has enabled us to grow and evolve our programs, relationships and collaborations.”

The next round of the program is now open to all events which help enhance the city’s reputation and are held within the municipality between 1 January and 30 June 2018. Sponsorship can include cash and/or in-kind support.

Eligible events must be free to attend or participate, have widespread appeal likely to attract significant crowds and be financially sustainable without support from the City of Melbourne.
