Eureka Stadium redevelopment starts to take shape

Set to host the AFL Premiership round 22 clash between Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide on Saturday 19th August, the redevelopment of Ballarat's Eureka Stadium is taking shape.

Giving an update on the Bulldogs’ website, Project Manager Tino DeGiusti advised “construction is now 30% through the western grandstand and approximately 60-70% through the eastern stand, with the foundations and footings for the northern stand currently being completed.”

The $15 million first phase of  revitalised precinct will deliver over 5,000 undercover seats and a total stadium capacity of over 11,000 spectators, with seating supplier Camatic announcing this week that it has won the tender to supply these 5,000 seats for the venue.

The Victorian Government is providing $31.5 million towards the Eureka precinct redevelopment, which includes not only upgrading Eureka Stadium, but also works at the Wendouree Sports and Events Centre, the C.E. Brown Reserve redevelopment and the Ballarat Showgrounds.

It is also planned that the new Eureka Stadium will cater for international acts and tournaments, bringing events to the region.

Commenting on the project, Victorian Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford, said that she expects that the stadium will be “a fair bit more than a football field.

“There’s so much more to this than the stadium and the AFL game and enormous benefit to the clubs who play here all the time.

After the round 22 fixture it is expected that the Western Bulldogs will play two AFL Premiership games at the ground in 2018, along with AFL Women’s games in the 2018 season.”

Melbourne-based architectural firm Peddle Thorp are the lead architect on the project, with Atelier Projects working together with Nicholson Construction under a joint venture agreement as the Main Contractor.
