Eureka Stadium redevelopment moves forward
The ongoing redevelopment of Ballarat’s Eureka Stadium has seen the recent installation of a new playing surface – now available for existing tenant club North Ballarat (VFL) and the North Ballarat Rebels (TAC Cup) to use in the upcoming 2016 season.
Recently completed works at the venue have also seen the installation of a new watering and drainage system; a reduction in the oval size to be the same as Etihad Stadium - making more room for proposed grandstands and match day facilities; upgraded change-rooms and match day facilities to AFL standard, the upgrading of stadium seating, catering and food beverage facilities and ticketing infrastructure; and the installation of improved lighting around the main oval and the provision of a video and electronic scoreboard.
The improvements form part of the first phase of $15 million redevelopment of the venue that will see it host two Western Bulldogs matches during the 2017 AFL season. When complete, the revitalised venue will deliver over 5,000 undercover seats, and a total stadium capacity of over 11,000 spectators.
Bulldogs President Peter Gordon said he was excited about his club’s expanding relationship with Ballarat, stating “it is great to bring AFL football to the people of Ballarat, it is great to grow our Club into this region, it is great for tourism, it is providing jobs, there are so many good elements to this."
Melbourne architectural firm Peddle Thorp Architects have been appointed as the lead architect to deliver the project. Populous had earlier provided the master plan.
