Barangaroo Point Reserve set to open on 22nd August

Sydney’s new six-hectare Harbour foreshore park, Barangaroo Point Reserve, will be officially opened to the public on Saturday 22nd August.

The opening will mark the return of a key part of the western Sydney Harbour foreshore for public use for the first time in more than 100 years.

This historic milestone represents the completion of a decade-long vision to restore a Harbour headland to its natural state. Designed by renowned landscape architect Peter Walker, Barangaroo Point Reserve is inspired by the original Harbour headland that existed circa 1836, prior to reclamation.

Barangaroo Point Reserve is the first of many new parks and civic spaces culminating in 50 per cent public domain across the Barangaroo precinct.

Looking forward to the opening of the new area of public open space, Barangaroo Delivery Authority Chief Executive Craig Van der Laan stated “Barangaroo Point Reserve is a breathtaking place – an oasis on the north western corner of Sydney’s CBD that embodies world-class design excellence and sustainability. The people of Sydney are being given a whole new Harbour view.

“In just three short years, a disused container terminal has been transformed into a wonderful parkland.

“It’s an amazing place for everyone that we are looking forward to sharing with all of Sydney.”

Barangaroo Point Reserve is owned and managed by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, a NSW Government agency. It has been funded by development of the commercial precinct at Barangaroo South.

Key features of Barangaroo Point Reserve include:

• A large cultural space, the Cutaway, built inside the headland and that can accommodate up to 5,500 people
• New pedestrian and shared cycle paths
• Expansive grassed areas
• Direct access to the Harbour
• New foreshore promenade, Wulugul Walk, which will extend from Walsh Bay to King Street Wharf when the section at Central Barangaroo is completed.
