Ecotourism attraction proposals sought for Western Australia’s Wellington National Park

The Western Australian Government is calling for private sector proposals – including Zip lines and high rope courses - to develop ecotourism and adventure activities in Wellington National Park near Collie.

The initiative is part of the $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative to establish Collie as a premier trail adventure town.

Applications that will be considered as part of the competitive process include but are not limited to zip lines, high rope courses, facilities and services in the national park to support visitor trail use, and low-impact accommodation.

WA Environment Minister Stephen Dawson notes that the Western Australian government has been working to facilitate more commercial nature-based tourism developments across WA, to encourage visitors to experience national parks and reserves in innovative and exciting ways and stimulate local economies.

Minister Dawson adds "the Premier recently announced a $150 million WA Recovery Plan investment to support our tourism sector as it manages the impacts of COVID-19, and we encourage people to 'wander out yonder' and explore the many nature-based activities WA has to offer.

"Wellington National Park is set to expand under the Plan for Our Parks initiative, so it is fitting that we enhance sustainable, accessible nature-based activities within the park."

WA Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray advises that through the $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative, Wellington National Park is fast becoming a mountain bike trail and walk trail centre.

Minister Murray adds "we want to encourage people to not just pass through the park, but spend significant time there recreating and then support the local towns and businesses around it.”

The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is calling on commercial operators to register their interest before 3rd December 2020. Following this, suitable applicants will be invited to submit detailed proposals.
