New Collie trails completed for mountain bike enthusiasts

Mountain biking enthusiasts in Western Australia have additional trails to explore in the South-West with the completion of the Arklow trail network, north of Collie.

A further 12 kilometres of new trails now winds its way through the Arklow forest, giving mountain bike riders a view of the stunning environment at Collie's doorstep.

The Arklow mountain bike trail network totals 36km; 26km of which is new or upgraded trail.

This includes the 9.5km Arklow adaptive trail, with six kilometres of the new trail built to accommodate hand cycles, allowing mountain bike riders with disability the opportunity to enjoy even more of the area.

The new trail is part of the Western Australian Government's $10 million initiative to create and maintain more than 180km of high-quality mountain bike and bushwalking trails in Collie and Dwellingup.

Collie Adventure Trails was funded through the State Government's $60 million Collie Industry Attraction and Development Fund.

Other additions that are in the works include expanded car park facilities at the Wellington Dam precinct and the Wiilman Bilya walking trail.

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan notes "Trail riding is one of the world's fastest growing sports, and we expect these new trails will attract adventure tourists from far and wide, supporting the local economy in Collie.

WA Environment Minister Stephen Dawson added "The Arklow Trail really showcases the pristine Arklow Forest and with the trail on the doorstep of Collie, there's no doubt it will be a hit with mountain bikers.

"It's fantastic that this trails network includes the adaptive trail which was designed to ensure mountain bike riders with disability can get out and enjoy the benefits of nature in the South-West."
