Clubs SA renews major sponsorship of Watch Around Water in South Australia

Recreation SA has announced that Clubs SA has renewed its major sponsorship of the Watch Around Water safety program.

Clubs SA’s major sponsorship, beginning in 2014, has allowed for Recreation SA to expand the program from 22 swimming pools prior to its involvement to more than 50 pools last year reaching more than 3.5 million patrons every year.

With Clubs SA continued support, Recreation SA aims to consolidate and extend the success of the program throughout South Australia, to reach more than 65 metropolitan and regional pools by 2018.

A statement for Recreation SA explains “extending awareness of the Watch Around Water ideals deeper into the community will have the positive impact of educating children, adults and families to act safely around water, whether it be at the home pool, at the beach, river ways and at community clubs with aquatic facilities.”

Watch Around Water is an education and public awareness raising program to address the growing concern regarding supervision of young children at public swimming pools.

Watch Around Water promotes consistent supervision policies:

• Children under five years age must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult and supervise within arms reach at all times while in the centre
• Children under 10 years must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult and supervised within line of sight at all times while in the centre
• All unsupervised children will be removed from the water.
