Bulahdelah Skate Park to receive an official opening

Midcoast Council has advised that Bulahdelah’s new skate park designed by Trinity Skate and located at Alum Mountain Park will be officially opened to the community on 26th June.

The impressive community facility has been over three years in the making and was heavily driven by the Bulahdelah Lions Club with assistance from MidCoast Council and the Federal Government.

The finished park is the result of extensive community consultation to assist with the design including a local focus group that was established early in the process to work with the designer Trinity Skate.

Council unofficially opened the park in time for the 2020/21 Christmas holidays to allow the community to use the facility, despite some landscaping works still to be completed.

“The response to the soft opening was fantastic, the community has loved the skatepark and it was so great to see people travelling from all across the region to enjoy this great new community facility,” said Dan Aldridge, MidCoast Council’s Manager of Community Spaces Recreation and Trades.

The official opening will include an opening ceremony with addresses from MidCoast Council Mayor David West, Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie and representatives from Bulahdelah Lions Club.

This will be followed by beginner and intermediate skate workshops with the team from Totem skateboards, skate demos, a barbecue and lucky door prizes and giveaways throughout the day.

Aldridge added “we’ve had a couple of Totem workshops at other skateparks in the region and they are a great way for local skaters of all levels to get helpful tips and guidance from professionals.

“Anyone who wants to take part needs to register first, there’s only 21 spots in each workshop and registrations can be made on the Totem skateboards website.”

The Bulahdelah Lions Club raised $181,000 for the skate park with Council contributing $79,000 and the Federal Government a further $50,000.

COVID-19 border closures meant the construction was delayed at times but Aldridge added that the final result is a great example of community and government working together.
