Marlborough Park transformed with exciting new skatepark
Marlborough Park has been transformed into one of Auckland’s most exciting youth destinations with an impressive skatepark completed this week and opened for use in Glenfield.
The transformation was made possible by the continued investment by Kaipātiki Local Board and the new skatepark’s design as a Flow Park was undertaken by Jason Parkes of Premium Skatepark Design.
Flow Parks are increasingly popular overseas, and the popularity of skating is trending up with its inclusion in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Kaipātiki Local Board Chair John Gillon says Marlborough Park has become a fantastic destination for young people across the North Shore and adds “it’s centrally located, very easy to access by public transport, and has something for children of all ages and stages.
“Along with Jason and his team, I’d like to thank our Kaipātiki Youth Board and local skating groups, who took the time to input into the concept design process.”
The new skatepark also has improved drainage, enabling it to be used safely year-round.
Other improvements at the park, over the past few years, include; a new climbing module, new seating, swing seats, an improved basketball court and perimeter paths, new junior playground with shade, flying fox, park furniture, plantings and improved drainage.
An opening celebration event is in the process of being organised for late in the month.
