BridgeClimb Sydney launches inaugural Climb for a Cause charity event
In support of mental health research institute Black Dog Institute, BridgeClimb Sydney has launched their inaugural Climb for a Cause charity event which will take place on 1st May 2022.
For one day only, climbers can scale the iconic arches of the Sydney Harbour Bridge with family, friends, sports teams, community groups, colleagues or entire organisations while raising awareness and important funds towards a mentally healthier Australia.
BridgeClimb Chief Executive, Deb Zimmer firmly believes that raising awareness and funds for mental health is more important now than ever and notes “It has been a tough couple of years for everyone, and the impacts of the pandemic and various lockdowns have had a huge toll on the mental health of Australians. We’re so proud to be launching Climb for a Cause and supporting Black Dog Institute to continue shining a light on mental illness.”
Black Dog Institute Community Fundraising Manager Phoebe Collins is excited by the event and the impact it will have on the vital work that they do.
“We’re thrilled to be working with BridgeClimb to launch their first charity event on one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks,” she said. “The funds raised will allow us to continue working to improve the lives of people impacted by mental illness through ground-breaking research, national education programs, and various support services.”
Sam Mac, Sunrise weatherman and mental health campaigner (pictured above), is an event advocate for Climb for a Cause and shares "a number of years ago I lost a close mate to his battles with mental health. It's a pain that never dulls. That's why I will always do my bit to help create a safe space for people to talk through their challenges. No one should be left to navigate through the darkness alone.
"60% of people experiencing symptoms of a mental illness will not seek help. That's a terrifying statistic and the perfect motivator to push us to do more. That first conversation could be with a family member, a friend, a work colleague or even one of the many mental health services available. It's important and it could save a life.”
For those wanting to step up towards a mentally healthier Australia and take part in Climb for a Cause, simply:
1. REGISTER - Register as an individual, couple, small group, or large team and purchase your tickets to the top of the iconic Harbour Bridge. An entry fee will cover operational costs for the day.
2. FUNDRAISE – Create a fundraising page, invite friends and family to join, and share it far and wide to let everyone know why raising funds for mental health is important and how others can help.
3. CLIMB – Join BridgeClimb on Sunday 1st May 2022 for an unforgettable special climb event to celebrate fundraising efforts.
Each group of climbers will be guided by an expert Climb Leader on a special route unique to the event. As well as enjoying the 360-degree spectacular views of Sydney, climbers will learn about the fascinating history of the Harbour Bridge and important information surrounding mental health.
Climbers will be treated to a range of surprises and experiences on the day, and the top fundraising teams will be in with a chance to win a selection of prizes.
