Man injured after BridgeClimb Sydney fall
A climber has been hospitalised with head injuries after falling from the Sydney Harbour Bridge while on a BridgeClimb Sydney excursion.
The man, aged 52, was reportedly left suspended from his safety harness for more than an hour after falling five metres while taking part in a BridgeClimb on Saturday evening.
He was winched to safety after what media called a "major rescue operation".
BridgeClimb said the man was treated by staff from the tour company before paramedics arrived.
In a statement, BridgeClimb advised "BridgeClimb's first aid responders have assisted one climber who fell on a ladder less than five metres on the Bridge prior to emergency services arriving and taking over care.
"The climber is in good health, was kept comfortable and was checked over as a precaution in hospital and accompanied by a BridgeClimb team member and did not sustain any spinal or serious head injuries.
"The safety and welfare of our customers and team is BridgeClimb's immediate priority at this present time."
More than five million people have climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge since that attracttion commenced in 1998.
With climbers wearing a safety harness and latch, which connects them to a static line on the Bridge, this is believed to be the first incident of its type.
BridgeClimb went on to advise "we will work closely with the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident."
