Honour for Scenic World's Anthea Hammon
Anthea Hammon, joint Managing Director at Blue Mountains attraction Scenic World, has been recognised with a vocational excellence award by Australia’s Rotarians.
Presented in Canberra at the weekend, the Rotary District 9685 Vocational Excellence Award acknowledges Hammon’ drive and determination to continually innovate the family-owned business while giving her time to advance tourism and safety and standards in Australia and promote the Blue Mountains.
Nominated for the award by the Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountains, Hammon said she was thrilled to be recognised for doing something she loves.
Hammon told the Blue Mountains Gazette “Scenic World is our family business so I’ve always been passionate about its success, seeing it grow and improve, and making sure we give the best experience possible to our guests from all over the world.
“I’m lucky I get to combine my engineering and business skills to affect change at Scenic World.”
Along with her brother, David, Anthea has been the joint managing director of Scenic World since 2011 and was responsible for overseeing the $30 million renewal of the original Scenic Railway which was launched in 2013, further enhancing the organisation’s guest experience.
Chairwoman of the vocational excellence committee Rotary district 9685, Margaret Sachs added “through our selection process, the committee recognised that Anthea has demonstrated outstanding achievements in her career in tourism.
“Her passion and entrepreneurial spirit is an inspiration to all, not to mention her consistent connection to community that she maintains through many local, national and international organisations, including Rotary.”
Hammon’s acceptance of the award was part of the Rotary District 9685 2016 conference and follows her receipt of the 2014 NSW young achiever in tourism award.
Hammon is also a Director of the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association.
