BridgeClimb Sydney welcomes back guests after Coronavirus closure

BridgeClimb has hosted its first post COVID-19 climb, welcoming leading tourism industry stakeholders to ascend to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Highlighting the return of the NSW domestic tourism industry, NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet; Tourism Australia Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison; Destination NSW Chief Executive, Steve Cox; Australian Tourism Export Council Managing Director, Peter Shelley; BE Sydney Chief Executive, Lyn Lewis-Smith and Tourism & Transport Forum Australia Chief Executive, Margy Osmond were among the BridgeClimb guests.

BridgeClimb reopened its doors to the public on Saturday 27th June, operating as a COVIDSafe place to visit and work.

Commenting on the significance of BridgeClimb Sydney recommencing operations, Treasurer Perrottet stated “it’s vital we open up as much of the NSW economy as possible and the reopening of iconic tourist attractions like BridgeClimb sends a very clear message, we’re open for business.

“There’s never been a more important time for us all to support the tourism industry which has faced so many challenges this year. International tourism may not be back yet, but we can still think global, and act local.”

David Hammon, Chief Executive of BridgeClimb operator Hammons Holdings, which operates BridgeClimb, said they had been “counting down the days to this weekend”, adding “we’ve all been through a lot in the last year with drought, bushfires and COVID disrupting all our lives,” he said. “Now is the time to support and connect with each other as a Nation and appreciate the beautiful country we live in.”

All climbs will be conducted in small, physically distanced groups, and the entirety of BridgeClimb premises will operate with increased cleaning schedules, including ongoing sanitisation completed within the climb base, and throughout climbers’ pre- and post-climb journey.
