NSW showgrounds receive additional funding from COVID-19 Stimulus Package

The NSW Government is delivering an additional $12.5 million in funding from its COVID-19 Stimulus Package to repair and renew showgrounds across NSW.

NSW Minister for Water, Property and Housing, Melinda Pavey advised “$12.5 million is being allocated immediately to get 393 projects underway to improve and repair 137 showground sites right across the State this financial year while creating local jobs and supporting the local economy.

“A further $12.5 million will be allocated next financial year to keep the ball rolling during the Coronavirus economic recovery phase.

“Showgrounds are at the heart of communities right across NSW and are multi-use facilities used by a wide range of groups for a wide range of activities.

“This investment will provide a much-needed boost for communities and their economies by supporting trades and suppliers with work and strengthening showground infrastructure for the future.”

Four Hunter Valley showgrounds will receive $559,207 in funding through the NSW Government's COVID-19 Stimulus Package. Singleton, Dungog, Gresford and Muswellbrook showgrounds were all successful in gaining funding.

NSW Planning and Public Spaces Minister, Rob Stokes noted that these projects will be a big win for communities across the State who rely on their local showgrounds for everything from agricultural shows to sports events and farmers markets.

Minister Stokes adds “Hundreds of repairs and upgrades, including new solar lighting, upgraded equipment and new paving will revive our showgrounds while providing support to local tradies and suppliers.”

Upgrades in the Hunter Valley region will include:

• $180,400 for Dungog Showground to repair and upgrade the pavilion and construct and seal the internal road.

• $231,929 for Singleton Showground to remove the existing timber pole and lights and supply and install a new pole with 24 LED lights.

• $118,878 for Gresford Showground to install solar lighting along the access road and provide an on-site laundry for use by visitors.

• $28,000 for Muswellbrook Showground to replace the cattle shed roof, and for seven gate security keypads.
