Bradley to leave Royal Life Saving Society Australia

Long serving Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) Chief Executive Rob Bradley will leave the role on 18th January after 16 years in the role.

Bradley leaves to build a family business on the NSW south coast in a major lifestyle change.

A statement on his departure reads "Bradley has been responsible for the financial growth, influence and industry leadership of Royal Life Saving during his tenure having contributed to much greater public awareness of drowning prevention and elevated support by Government at all levels."

Bradley has been convenor of the Australian Water Safety Council for the 14 years since its inception in 1998 and was was instrumental in the development of four Australian Water Safety Strategies including the current strategy that aims to reduce drowning in Australia by 50% by 2020 and in the hosting of eight Australian Water Safety Conferences.

The statement continues "Bradley is pleased to have contributed to many significant achievements including the reduction of drowning in the 0 to 4 age group from 68 deaths in the early 2000's to 21 last year.

"In teaming with Surf Life Saving Australian and St John Ambulance Australia in 2000, Bradley was successful in gaining GSTFree treatment for lifesaving, first aid and personal aquatic survival when the tax was first introduced.

"In more recent times he has been strident in seeking the national harmonisation of home pool fencing legislation and compliance and of compulsory swimming and water safety in the National School Curriculum.

"On the world stage Bradley was a director and Vice President on the Board of the International Life Saving Federation from 1996-2012 and was President of the ILS Asia Pacific Region from 2000-12. During his Presidency he helped establish 12 new national federations in the Asia Pacific Region including in China, India and the Philippines. In 2011 Royal Life Saving Society Australia hosted the highly successful ILS World Conference on Drowning Prevention in Danang, Vietnam involving over 50 nations.

Commenting on Bradley's departure, RLSSA National President Dianne Montalto stated "Royal Life Saving thanks Rob for his significant contribution to drowning prevention in this country over many years and wishes him and his family well in their future ventures."

Bradley will stand down from his Royal Life Saving and other water safety related roles in mid-January but will continue as President of masters games organisers the Confederation of Australian Sport and as a Director of the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association.

RLSSA Chief Operating Officer, Justin Scarr will assume the acting Chief Executive role until a decision is made on recruiting Bradley's successor.
