Blacktown City Council re-opens its outdoor pools for summer
Blacktown City Council has reopened its much-loved seasonal venues, Mount Druitt Swimming Centre and Riverstone Swimming Centre, for the summer season.
Among local authorities across Australia reopening their seasonal pools, the two Blacktown facilities started their summer operations at 9am on Saturday 26th September.
Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale commented “our outdoor pools have been at the heart of the community for many decades and families of all ages can now get back in and swim in a COVIDSafe environment for the warmer months ahead.”
Both Mount Druitt and Riverstone Swimming Centres offer: 50-metre swimming pool; leisure pool; babies pool; change room facilities; playground and a grassed recreational area.
Saturday 26th September also saw the outdoor pools at Blacktown Aquatic Centre and Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton reopen.
Emphasising measures taken by staff to ensure patron safety, Mayor Bleasdale added “all our leisure and aquatic centres are COVID safe and we ask that patrons adhere to social distancing and healthy swimming guidelines when visiting any of our venues.”
To comply with COVID-19 safety, all customers wishing to visit any of our leisure and aquatic centres, including Mount Druitt and Riverstone need to make a booking in advance. This can be done over the telephone, at the centre or online.
The Council has also announced that the Blacktown Pet Festival is being held on Sunday 11 October at the Blacktown Showground.
Mayor Bleasdale is encouraging local residents and animal enthusiasts alike to show off their ‘pet pride’ at the free event, noting “pets are such an important part of so many of our residents’ lives, and at Blacktown City Council we want to provide an opportunity to celebrate the joy and companionship of pet ownership.
“This festival is also a valuable way in which Council raises awareness about responsible pet ownership.”
While not all usual entertainment and activities will be held this year, the Pet Festival will still feature plenty of attractions, including dog obedience demonstrations by the Blacktown Kennel Club, free micro-chipping for Blacktown City residents, pet stalls and displays, a Blacktown Animal Holding Facility stall, roving entertainment, and a mobile dog wash.
