Belgravia Leisure and AUSTSWIM partner to boost water safety skills

Facility management company Belgravia Leisure and AUSTSWIM have announced an innovative strategic alliance to create and enhance aquatic education opportunities within Belgravia Leisure managed facilities nationwide.

The partnership aims to increase levels of water safety within communities by delivering accessible aquatic education programs, staffed by quality-trained professionals presenting a curriculum that enhances knowledge, skill and understanding ofAustralia’s diverse aquatic environments.

Both Belgravia Leisure and AUSTSWIM are mindful of the first United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) report on drowning, released at the end of 2014 stated “every hour of every day, 40 people lose their lives to drowning. While drowning is a leading cause of death worldwide, prevention is possible.”

Both organisations share the aim of wanting to improve water safety  with the partnership strengthening Belgravia Leisure’s commitment to community engagement through the training and development of local people as teachers of swimming and water safety; contributing to community education, safety and employment development.

The partnership will also see career pathways for Belgravia Leisure staff will be expanded by greater access to AUSTSWIM’s suite of training courses such as Aquatic Service Officer and WETS Aqua Leader training.

Access to a greater range of training opportunities for Belgravia Leisure staff will ensure the delivery of safe and effective aquatic classes, which will contribute to enhancing the health and wellness opportunities for all.

Explaining that the partnership iss an important development in the organisations commitment to swimming and water safety education and staff development, Belgravia Leisure Chief Executive Nick Cox stated “we are looking forward to the quality training opportunities that AUSTSWIM can provide that will enable our staff team to enhance and build on their existing knowledge and skills.”

AUSTSWIM Chief Executive Gordon Mallett, added that the partnership was mutually beneficial, with many more Australians being the big winners as they gain knowledge, skill and understanding for safer aquatic participation.

Mallett stated “it’s an exciting time for AUSTSWIM and Belgravia Leisure to work in partnership and develop a mutually beneficial relationship.”
