Amendments made to SafeWork SA auditing regime for amusement devices
Safe Work SA have recently begun advising amusement device owners and operators of changes to the SafeWork SA auditing regime for amusement devices at the 2015 Royal Adelaide Show.
As part of its audits, SafeWork SA will require amusement device owners to provide information verifying that inspection activities undertaken by a competent person give the necessary attention to critical safety features. In particular, a suitably competent person must validate that all minimum safety standards, prescribed by Australian Standard AS3533.3 In Service Inspection (AS3533.3), have been achieved.
Specifically, SafeWork SA will require the individual validation of the following:
• Critical components, as identified in AS3533.3; at the time of inspection were in good working order, and
• Patron restraint systems have been tested and are in good working order.
SafeWork SA will also require amusement device owners to have available in the logbook the curriculum vitae of the competent person who undertook the annual inspection.
The CV must provide the qualifications and experience of the competent person.
As part of this communication process SafeWork SA have also written to engineers advising them of the changes.
The 2014 Royal Adelaide Show was marred by the death of eight-year-old girl who died after falling from a ride while a series of other amusement ride safety incidents have occurred in the past year.
