All new Aqualink Box Hill makes a splash in the community
Since a $30 million plus redevelopment of Aqualink Box Hill by Whitehorse City Council, the facility has been attracting massive support from the city’s residents.
Each week the multipurpose aquatic, fitness, recreation and sport centre attracts 17,000 users and 2020 learn-to-swim participants while the fitness suite has a membership exceeding 3500.
Located in Surrey Park in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill, Aqualink’s site was originally a deep water hole that became the first Olympic standard pool in Australia in the early 1900s.
The original Aqualink Box Hill, was built in the late 1970s and the redevelopment began in 2012. The new facility opened in December 2013 and is double the size of the old building. It features include five indoor and outdoor pools for people of all abilities (including two 25-metre pools), a new 700 metre2 gym, a spa, sauna and warm-water therapy pool along with a crèche, children's party rooms and contemporary cafe.
It also provides a three-court multi-use stadium, along with outdoor futsal and tennis courts.
The new centre's leading-edge, environmentally-sustainable design by Williams Ross Architects presents spacious and flexible aquatic and dry area facilities which are gaining Aqualink Box Hill recognition as one of the most innovative centres in Australia.
With its fast growing membership the gym at Aqualink Box Hill is proving to be a major success story.
Club members can participate in 120 group fitness classes a week in four dedicated group fitness studios including the wellness room, which offers yoga, tai chi and Pilates.
The facility also caters for the growing interest in boxing and combat training with specialised group fitness classes and caters for specific age groups with fitness programs for older adults, teenagers and all abilities.
