Adelaide readies for ShowBroker performing arts market
Australia’s performing arts sector will converge on Adelaide later this month when it hosts the first ShowBroker market – playing an important part in programming the nation’s stages for the year ahead.
A brand new initiative, ShowBroker: National Touring Arts Market will bring together more than 200 performing arts delegates from around Australia at the height of Adelaide’s peak festival season.
Touring markets are integral to the business of buying and selling shows to tour the nation. It’s where performing artists and producers pitch their tour-ready work, and where programmers and presenters book it for their venues and festivals.
ShowBroker, to run from 27th February to 1st March, will feature a packed program of 39 pitches and performances, selected from 199 applicants by a national advisory and selection group.
The event will be managed by and held at the Adelaide Festival Centre, chosen for its proven expertise in events and festivals and success in running conferences, including last year’s Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres conference.
Delegates will be able to make the most of ShowBroker’s timing during one of the best weeks of the year in Adelaide, when the city gives itself over to its thriving arts and cultural scene – all of which is great for the local economy.
ShowBroker is part of the South Australian Government’s strategy to expand opportunities for artists and companies throughout Australia and across the world.
Following the success of the 2016 pilot, the Made in Adelaide initiative will again see South Australia’s festivals and creatives activate a major presence in Edinburgh in August 2017.
Arts South Australia will deliver the market in collaboration with the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust, Adelaide Festival of Arts, Adelaide Fringe, and the South Australian Presenters’ Association with the endorsement of the Performing Arts Touring Alliance (PATA).
