AALARA President Shane McGrath steps down

The Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) has advised that its President Shane McGrath has had to resign from the role.

At the Association’s AGM in May, a special resolution had seen AALARA members vote for McGrath to remain in the role for an additional year to continue his leadership role in advocating for an industry-owned Discretionary Mutual Fund (DMF) for the attractions industry.

In a statement on McGrath (picture) stepping down, AALARA Advised “we are incredibly grateful for the countless hours, enthusiasm and passion Shane has so very selflessly given AALARA and the wider amusement, leisure and recreation industry over the last 10 years on the Board.

“During Shane's tenure, he has been President for three of his 10 years, with those three years being arguably the most challenging of times our industry has ever experienced.

“Shane will be sorely missed, both as an amazing industry professional and overall great guy.”

The AALARA Board has elected longstanding member Greg O'Neill to fill the casual Presidential vacancy left for the next 10 months until Renee Soutar from Village Roadshow Theme Parks steps into the Presidency at next year's AGM.
