AALARA urges members to respond to Australian Small Business Ombudsman's insurance crisis interim report

By Nigel Benton

Following on from the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman's Interim Report into the insurance crisis impacting attractions and tourism, the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) is urging its members to respond.

Published on Wednesday, The Show Must Go On interim report from the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) explores whether the creation of a Discretionary Mutual Fund (DMF) would solve the insurance crisis facing Australia’s amusement, attractions and tourism industry.

The Ombudsman has supported AALARA's notion to establish an industry-owned Discretionary Mutual Fund as the most durable and secure pathway forward for the industry.

However, with the interim report seeking urgent feedback on the ideas and questions it raises from stakeholders by Wednesday 3rd November, AALARA has advised its members “you have only days to show your support.

In a communication to members, AALARA advises “now is your chance to support your industry and ensure that we never are put in the position where insurance challenges stand in between you operating and making a living, or not.

“We have a window of less than two weeks where we can provide comment on the report, for consideration for the Federal Government to understand the importance of our industry, and support us going forward.

“Sharing your experience will go a long way to assist us ensure the Federal Government values our amusement, leisure and recreation industry enough, to back us.

“We don't want up to 750% increases in premium costs for our members. We don't want instability from our insurance providers. We want a long-term, industry-owned solution that ensures safety for our guests, security for your business and smiles for many more years to come.”
