World record crowd sees Australia secure Netball World Cup
Australia has won a third consecutive title in netball, defeating New Zealand 58-55 to claim a the 2015 Netball World Cup before a world record crowd of 16,752 at Sydney's Allphones Arena on Sunday (16th August).
The crowd number for the final exceeded that set at Allphones Arena on the previous Sunday when 16,223 people saw New Zealand beat their trans-Tasman arch rivals Australia, ending the Diamonds 21 match winning streak.
The previous world record was set in 2004, also a test match between Australia and New Zealand at Allphones Arena.
As the Sydney Super Dome, the Allphones Arena hosted the Basketball and Gymnastics events during the Sydney 2000 Games.
Australia have now won or shared 11 of the 14 world tournaments/championships/cups played in their various guises and under evolving formats since 1963, including both times that the event has been held in Sydney.
