World Parks Day one month away
The second World Parks Day will take place on Saturday 19th September 2009.
Organised by Parks for Life, an international initiative created by the International Parks and Green Space Alliance, World Parks Day is an opportunity to celebrate our parks and open spaces.
The day aims to:
• Communicate the critical importance of parks in a global context
• Promote best practice by learning from other parks services
• Encourage people to enjoy their local park and appreciate the importance of green space
World Parks Day activities and events have been confirmed in Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the USA.
Australian and New Zealand activities include:
• Christchurch City Council, New Zealand is hosting two walks, a tree planting and 'Clean up' activities;
• Cornwall Park, New Zealand are hosting a Guided Golf Course walk;
• Manukau City Council, New Zealand are promoting the Value of Parks;
• Waitakere City Council, New Zealand are giving three guided walks throughout their parks followed by a barbeque;
• Parks, Conservation and Lands ACT, are encouraging all to enjoy their parks through the media.
