Waterfront theatre nears fundraising target
The Auckland Theatre Company is closing in on its fundraising target for a new theatre at North Wharf in the Wynyard Quarter.
Having raised $25 million of its $35 milllion target, the Company says it is on track to start construction of the 600-seat facility in the second half of next year.
Auckland Council is to contribute $10 million, conditional on the company raising the full $35 million, while other recent contributions include $3 million from Creative New Zealand while discussions are continuing with New Zealand's Lottery Grants Board and other funders for a further $7 million.
Established in 1992, Auckland Theatre Company is Auckland's premier professional theatre company and one of the leading theatre companies in New Zealand. The Company presents a mainbill season of seven to eight plays to over 75,000 people from throughout Auckland and the Upper North Island each year.
