Work begins on upgrading South Bank's Streets Beach
Work has begun on the upgrade of the popular Streets Beach and stream area on Brisbane’s South Bank.
With the aim of creating a safer and more user-friendly environment, new paving, decking and seating is to be installed around the beach and new handrails and ladders added in the aquatic areas.
Works at the stream will involve re-shaping its edge and installing new, interactive play elements for children.
Both areas will also receive new landscaping.
The project cost of $1.72 million is being funded from the Queensland Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.
The project aims to enhance some of Brisbane’s most-loved assets and draw even more people to the precinct delivering a boost to businesses in and around the area.
South Bank is one of Brisbane’s most popular destinations, attracting an estimated 10 million visitors each year.
A statement from Brisbane Marketing explained “upgrading Streets Beach and the stream will help cater to continually increasing visitor numbers and ensure South Bank remains at the forefront for delivering year round, world-class experiences for visitors.
“The beach will remain open during the works but sections of it will close occasionally to ensure public safety. The stream will be closed for the duration of the works.”
