NSW Premier kicks off construction of Wet'n'Wild Sydney
NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell has announced the start of construction at the new Wet'n'Wild Sydney waterpark.
With construction having been expected to begin over recent month, the NSW Premier explained "Wet'n'Wild Sydney is expected to contribute more than $500 million to the NSW economy during the first 10 years of its operations (and) will bring jobs and investment to Western Sydney.
"It is anticipated that 900,000 people will visit the park every year, including 175,000 people from interstate and overseas.
"Aside from the great news for our economy, this park is also fantastic news for families looking for a way to cool off in the hot Western Sydney summers."
The $115 million waterpark is sited on land in the Western Sydney Parklands, owned by the NSW Government, with developer Village Roadshow entering into an agreement with the Western Sydney Parklands Trust to lease the 25 hectare property for 50 years.
Premier O'Farrall added "Wet'n'Wild Sydney is being built by Village Roadshow and the company has agreed to spend $7 million upgrading roads around the site."
Plans for Wet'n'Wild Sydney are for it to feature rides with the latest waterslide technology. Highlights will include one of the world's biggest man-made beaches and the nation's first surfable wave pool.
Other attractions will include:
Two lazy river attractions - the first featuring a standard river in addition to a river rapids loop and an 'extreme river';
WhiteWater West dueling master blaster tube slides;
Shark Lagoon - teen activity pool;
WhiteWater West Whizzard six-lane mat ride;
