Maytronics Australia to develop Poseidon computer-aided drowning detection systems

Respected aquatic product suppliers Maytronics Australia are to distribute the Poseidon computer-aided drowning detection systems for public swimming pools.

Aided by Poseidon being owned by Maytronics' parent company (Maytronics), along with the strength of the Australian dollar, the world leading anti drowning system is now available at a much more affordable price - and means it will fall well within BATNEC (Best Available Technology at not excessive Cost) for many new and renovation projects.

The system, currently installed at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope (BLCS) was, in 2010, recommended by the Queensland Coroner following a drowning death in Rockhampton.

When installed BLCS in 2007, Royal Life Saving Society Australia Chief Executive Rob Bradley stated "the Poseidon system is an excellent example of how advances in technology can support the work of our pool lifeguards. I believe that this technology will play an important part in aquatic life saving in the future."

In addition, Australasian Leisure Management Publisher Nigel Benton wrote, "the Poseidon system as a component in risk management will become vital in facilities' 'duty of care' to their pool users. There exists a potential scenario of a post drowning coronial inquest asking those responsible for a facility questions such as 'would an anti drowning detection system have prevented this fatality?' and then 'why did your facility not have an anti drowning detection system installed?'"

With Maytronics looking to advance installations of the Poseidon product in Australia, the company is looking to appoint a Senior Business Development Manager to develop, launch and commercialise Poseidon in the Australian Market.
