Western Australian Government to keep control of Albany Entertainment Centre

The Western Australian Government has agreed to maintain control of the Albany Entertainment Centre for another 12 months.

The deal, which sees the Government control the Centre and meet its operating shortfall of about $1 million, was set to expire on 30th June.

However, the Western Australian Government has agreed to a request from the City of Albany to extend that until mid-2015.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington told the ABC that there is still reluctance for the city to take on the centre itself but it will continue to liaise with the Western Australian Government on its management.

Mayor Wellington explained "I'm not sure we're prepared to take it on fully, that will be a decision made by the full council not by the mayor or anything like that.

"It's something we'd have to consider at the time when we have a look at the budgets and see where we're at.

"It's a matter of us asking the Government to continue to extend the time and there's still some ongoing management things that have got to be sorted out.

"We weren't ready to take it over and they were in a position to look after it and they agreed with our request."

AEG Ogden has been the venue manager of the Albany Entertainment Centre since its opening in 2012. This arrangement will end as of 31st December 2014 with the Perth Theatre Trust taking over the direct management of the venue.
