Western Australian Government commits to ongoing support for Albany Entertainment Centre

The Western Australian Government is to provide ongoing funding to back the operations of the Albany Entertainment Centre (AEC).

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan today announced an additional allocation of $1.5 million in the State’s 2018/19 Budget on top of an original commitment of $464,000

The centre attracts audiences of nearly 40,000 each year through more than 200 events, performances, functions and conferences.

The Western Australian Government and the City of Albany each contribute 50% of the operational cost of the centre, which includes cash and in-kind contributions from the Council.

The Western Australian Government also is working with Albany, through the AEC Operational Advisory Committee, to develop a long-term management plan for the Centre.

The Centre is seen as a valuable asset to the Great Southern region of Western Australia with about 32% of the audience coming from outside the City of Albany.

The current funding agreement has been in place since 2015, and was due to expire on 30th June next year.

Commenting on the new funding, Premier McGowan advised "I'm pleased to confirm the State's ongoing commitment to the Albany Entertainment Centre.

"This year's Budget will continue to deliver on our election commitments and invest in job-creating initiatives like the creative industries to help improve the local economy.”

The Albany Entertainment Centre is managed by the Perth Theatre Trust on behalf of the Western Australian Government.
