Water Playground Plans for Ipswich Park
Ipswich City Council is planning to build a swimming lagoon and water playground at its Springfield Central Parklands development.
The $20 million Springfield Central Parklands is seen as the most significant open space project since the municipality of Ipswich was established in 1860.
When complete, the 24-hectare parklands will provide green space and recreational parklands to the fast growing urban centre of Springfield. It will include walkways and a bikeways network; recreation and events spaces; artificial lakes, waterfalls and water features; and an interactive education centre.
With the Federal Government recently confirming that it will contribute half of the cost of the project from its $800 million Community Infrastructure Program, Ipswich City Council is now considering the addition of a swimming lagoon and water playground.
As Councillor David Morrison explains, the planned swimming lagoon and water playground "would help the whole synergy of the park to attract visitors."
