Negotiations completed for construction of Hockey Australia Centre of Excellence

Negotiations have been completed for the transformation of the Perth Hockey Stadium into the Hockey Australia Centre of Excellence to be established at Curtin University in Bentley - delivering a purpose-built facility with the design led by consultants Hunt Architects.

The upgraded facility will boast four international hockey pitches and an indoor hockey centre with the major stadium to include seating for up to 10,000 spectators in event mode.

The Western Australian Government recently signed the Development Deed with Curtin University finalising the land tenure negotiations.

A ground lease between Curtin University and VenuesWest, who will own the facility on behalf of the State once built, has also been confirmed.

In December 2022, Hockey Australia announced the WA Government was successful in its bid with Hockey WA to have Perth remain Australia's home of hockey for the next 18 years.

Design has continued to advance alongside the ongoing land tenure negotiations and is now well underway.

The central location at Curtin University provides supporting amenities, and is in close proximity to transport hubs, work hubs and accommodation needs.

WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman noted “"Perth has a rich hockey history, so it makes sense that we remain the home of hockey, one that delivers a world-class, high-performance centre for athletes and fans.

"The WA Government's winning bid in 2022 enabled Perth to be the home of hockey for 18 years. This long-term approach will support the next four Olympic cycles and provide Hockey Australia with a solid foundation for building its program well into the future.

"The new hockey hub will promote Perth and Western Australia on the world stage, which will have significant economic and cultural benefits by helping to attract visitors from overseas."
