WA Museum Boola Bardip’s new exhibition 'Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed' - a series of large-scale, immersive experiences -has been curated by some of the world's leading game developers.
'Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed' includes six immersive experiences that experiment with sound, light and interactive visuals
'Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed' is curated by the Barbican Centre, London with co-creator and celebrated game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the creator of several award-winning titles including Rez/Rez Infinite, Tetris Effect and Lumines.
This exhibition brings together interactive works by six of the world's leading video game developers, who have collaborated with top media design studios to create a series of large-scale, immersive experiences.
Each of the six 'realms' is driven by a unique theme, offering a multi-sensory experience through video game creativity today.
From playful adventures in virtual worlds to deep meditative reflections on life itself, visitors will be taken on a journey through beautiful landscapes, cosmic worlds and kaleidoscopic creations which transform the video game into a new form of immersive installation.
Virtual Realms invites everyone, from families, gamers and contemporary art lovers alike, to discover video games as never experienced before.
WA Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman notes "this is an exciting new venture for the WA Museum Boola Bardip, with Virtual Realms offering a unique experience to see how the boundaries of video games can be pushed and experienced together beyond the screen.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to see the work of some of the world's best video game developers in the State and with an exciting gaming industry.”
'Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed' is on display at the WA Museum Boola Bardip from 26th March until 22nd May, 2022.
