WA Museum Boola Bardip launches four world premiere experiences
Travelling beyond the Milky Way, roaming with gigantic dinosaurs, walking with colour and journeying down a rabbit hole to Wonderland are some of the extraordinary experiences on offer at Western Australian Museum Boola Bardip - now and into 2022.
Exhibitions across the year range from celebrating local Western Australian and Aboriginal stories through to national and international exhibitions that will stretch the imagination through the use of immersive digital technologies.
Western Australian Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman notes "with world premieres and acclaimed international exhibitions, WA Museum Boola Bardip is the place to be! The Museum is showcasing local creatives and national and international exhibitions.
"Starting this Saturday visitors can enjoy an incredible array of experiences, including immersive exhibitions, digital projections and a 360-degree virtual reality film about the SKA.
"Start planning your summer and 2022 Museum experiences now. The city and State are alive with creativity and there is something for everyone with both free and paid exhibitions at the Museum. There is so much to see and do, so take advantage of free general admission and experience your award-winning Museum again and again."
Opening Saturday 11th December:
The free exhibition ‘Walking with Colour: Cinematic Nature’ by Michael Haluwana offers vibrant projections and multimedia installations featuring WA's landscapes and seascapes.
Belong: Language connecting feeling, culture, country - Rich multimedia exhibition by photographic artist Martine Perret focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, connection to land and the role our bodies play in relating emotions. Free exhibition.
Beyond the Milky Way: A spectacular 360-degree virtual reality film narrated by physicist Professor Brian Cox about the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and Universe. From award-winning producer, director and writer Briege Whitehead, and White Spark Pictures. Ticketed experience.
Illuminate: Timescapes - An experience featuring digital projections on Boola Bardip's Old Gaol. Inspired by the Museum's collections and WA's natural beauty, the projections will take place each night from sunset. Principal Partner Minderoo Foundation. Free experience.
Then in the New Year, Boola Bardip welcomes:
Nyumbi: Commencing 22nd January, each Saturday at 11am, Nyoongar dancers perform traditional song and dance, and share stories of their rich culture and history. Presented by Tourism WA and supported by the City of Perth. Free experience.
Virtual Realms: Opening on 26th March, this immersive exhibition from London's Barbican pairs six of the world's most acclaimed video game developers with six leading media design studios to create a series of large-scale experimental spaces. Ticketed exhibition.
Dinosaurs of Patagonia: Opening on 2nd July, walk with the largest dinosaurs that ever roamed the Earth. Visitors will experience the incredible size of titanosaurs and meet herbivores and carnivores from the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic periods. This exhibition is designed by Argentina's Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio. Ticketed exhibition.
Wonderland: Opening on 17th December, this exhibition celebrates the timeless stories of Lewis Carroll. Explore Alice's journey from book to screen through original picture books, magic lanterns and more than 40 moving images, film and TV moments. This exhibition is developed by the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI). Ticketed exhibition.
