VMA Presents 'After Five' Function in Melbourne

The Venue Management Association [Asia and Pacific] (VMA) is to stage its latest 'After Five' function at the Melbourne Arts Centre on Thursday 5th August.

The event, which will run from 5.30 to 7.30pm will be held at The Arts Centre, St Kilda Road, Melbourne and will be addressed by Laura Mumaw, the executive responsible for the delivery of the Southgate Cultural Precinct Redevelopment and in particular the $128 million redevelopment of Hamer Hall.

Prior to her appointment at the Arts Centre Laura was the Chief Executive of Zoos Victoria responsible for the Royal Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.

Mumaw has a successful history of executive management having also held roles at the Auckland and Taronga Zoos.

Mumaw will be presenting an overview of the Hamer Hall redevelopment project.

The Victorian Government and Arts Centre have released the first design sketches for the Hamer Hall refurbishment, as part of the Southbank Cultural Precinct Redevelopment.

The drawings show Melbourne's popular concert venue opened up to the Yarra River bank and St Kilda Road.

Victorian Arts Minister Peter Batchelor recently explained that Hamer Hall, which opened in 1982, had become one of Victoria's cultural icons, commenting "Hamer Hall was one of the first buildings situated on the south side of the Yarra River and it was central to the redevelopment of Melbourne's riverside along Southbank.

"Now that Southbank has been transformed into a major destination for Victorians and visitors alike, itâs time to open up the building to the river and to the many thousands of people who take in the riverside promenade each day.

"This redevelopment will breathe new life into Hamer Hall, while maintaining its unique character and ensuring it will be a state-of-the-art facility that invites people in and responds to the needs of artists and audiences into the future."

Attendance at the event is free of charge and guests of VMA members are welcome.

To attend, please RSVP by email to the VMA at assist@vma.org.au
