Swimming Victoria seeks new Chief Executive

Swimming Victoria is currently seeking to fill the position of Chief Executive following the resignation of Gill O’Mara.

O’Mara is leaving the position in April, after just over a year as Chief Executive, following her father having been diagnosed with a terminal illness. O’Mara and her husband will be relocating to Queensland to be closer to her parents.

In leaving the role, O’Mara stated “I am incredibly disappointed to leave the Swimming Victoria community, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to serve our members and the sport of swimming.

“I am deeply appreciative of the support and understanding of the Swimming Victoria staff and Board (and) I remain unwavering in my commitment to Swimming Victoria; my key priority is to ensure the positive momentum we have established as a team continues uninterrupted, and to provide a solid foundation from which the new CEO and the Swimming Victoria community can thrive”.

Swimming Victoria President, Paul Malcolm, said, “Gill has made a significant and positive impact on our sport in such a short period.  Since joining Swimming Victoria, Gill has led the organisation through some challenging times and capitalised on strategic opportunities with passion, dedication and a clear vision of success.

“Whilst the Board is disappointed to lose Gill, we understand and fully support her decision.  This is one of those times where family absolutely comes first.”

The Board of Swimming Victoria is currently conducting a search for a new Chief Executive.

The role requires driving the strategic outcomes of Swimming Victoria and responsibility for the day-to-day operational aspects of the business – managing staff, dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders, oversight of all financial matters and delivering commercial outcomes.

Prior to taking on her executive role at Swimming Victoria, O’Mara had been a director of the organisation and had worked in the corporate learning and development industry.
