Tough times force wilderness park downsizing
The owners of Broome's Crocodile and Wilderness Wildlife Park say dwindling visitor numbers have forced them to cut staff and strip back the park's operations.
Prior to his death in 2010, adventurer Malcolm Douglas kept hundreds of exotic animals at the WildlifePark. Now, all but a few are being sent back to their native regions.
In addition, staff numbers have been cut by 50%.
Douglas' son Lachlan says the business will be cut back to operating solely as a crocodile attraction, stating "we have had some difficult years, a number in a row and we've just been forced to make some pretty brutal decisions about what we can realistically afford to keep and what we can't."
Situated on 30 hectares, the attraction is located 16 kilometres from Broome, on the Great Northern Highway.
