City of Gold Coast takes Active & Healthy program on-line
Having successfully transformed the lives of a growing number of local residents, Gold Coast City Council is taking its Active & Healthy program on-line.
Offering a range of free or low-cost activities designed to enhance fitness, mental health and wellbeing, the program has already helped thousands of Gold Coast residents.
Releasing the new 2017/18 Active & Healthy Guide, Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Donna Gates stated “it’s the perfect way to get outdoors and embrace active living on the Gold Coast.
“Active & Healthy is a great opportunity to get out into our city’s magnificent parklands and green space to boost your fitness and wellbeing.”
Robina resident Joan Gadenne attends an Active & Healthy yoga class every Tuesday morning and said her health had improved dramatically.
Gadenne stated “I was on blood pressure medication for 15 years and I haven’t needed it since starting the yoga classes.
“My instructor is amazing - she doesn’t just tell us what we need to do, she explains why we are doing it and how it’s going to help our overall health and fitness.”
Deputy Mayor Gates said last year’s program attracted more than 278,000 participants and this year, numbers were expected to rise.
For the first time, participants can search an interactive online calendar and filter by suburb, date and exercise type. This search tool allows locals and tourists to see what’s on near them, all at the click of a button.
Details of program activities can be found in the Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide, available at City libraries and Community Centres, or online at cityofgoldcoast.com.au/activehealthy
