Australia fall short but Fast5 proves a success in Melbourne
Almost 6,500 people watched New Zealand claim the Fast5 Netball World Series trophy for the sixth time at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena today.
While Australia fell short on the court, with New Zealand taking the grand final win in convincing style, 41 – 16, crowds were treated to two days of high-octane netball action.
And as the event got underway, the Victorian Government confirmed it has secured the event for the next three years.
Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Major Events Danielle Green explained how major events such as Fast5 grow Victoria’s economy and create jobs for locals - being worth $1.8 billion to the state each year.
Parliamentary Secretary Green stated “Fast5 Netball is proving a hit right around the world. We’re thrilled to make history as the first Australian city to host the next instalment.”
“Major events like the Fast5 Netball World Series aren’t just great spectacles, they’re a big boost to the state’s economy, too."
Fast5 Netball is the exciting new version of one of the world’s most popular sports. The shortened, action-packed contests pit netball’s best against each other in five-a-side games that feature multiple point shots and double-point power plays.
