VMA opens enrolment for 2018 Venue Management School and VMA Leadership Institute

The Venue Management Association (Asia and Pacific) Limited [VMA] has opened enrolment for its two leading education programs – the Venue Management School (VMS) and the VMA Leadership Institute.

Set to run concurrently from 11th to 15th November 2018 at the Salt Resort in Kingscliff, NSW, both the VMS and LI are the only programs of their kind in the Asia-Pacific region and bring together a unique blend of Australian, New Zealand and international instructors and students.

The Venue Management School is a world-renowned two-year educational program delivered via a five-day residential program each year.

With nearly 900 graduates, the VMS has been cultivating the next generation of venue professionals for 25 years. VMS features case studies, workshops, and discussions as well as instructor and student presentations to provide a comprehensive understanding of 35 topics essential to the venue industry along with ready-to-implement strategies for venues of all sizes and sectors.

Ideal for middle to senior level managers looking to increase their industry expertise and build their network of industry peers, VMS courses are taught by executive-level instructors from top-tier international organisations such as Dallas Cowboys, Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust, Qudos Bank Arena, WAFL, NRL, AEG Ogden, VenuesLive, MCEC, Eventbooking and more. Students may also choose to enrol in the nationally accredited Diploma of Venue Management* with VMS counting towards its completion. Through the VMA’s partnership with Griffith University, VMS students who successfully complete the Diploma of Venue Management have the opportunity to receive credit towards either the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of International Tourism and Hotel Management degrees offered by Griffith.

The newly developed VMA Leadership Institute (VMALI), delivered via a six-day residential program, is the benchmark educational program for senior managers to executives looking to enhance their leadership abilities and prepare them to take on a larger role within their organisation.

Accepting only 16 students a year, the VMALI consists of seven in-depth sessions focusing on leadership skills specific to the venue industry. Exploring leadership styles, strategic planning, management theory, the art of negotiation, leading change and more, VMALI provides students with the skills and confidence to become established authorities in the venue management industry. VMALI features executive-level international and Australian instructors from industry-leading organisations including NRL Chief Executive, Todd Greenberg; Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust Chief Operting Officer, Andrew Travis and 2018 guest instructor, AEG Ogden Chairman Harvey Lister among others. Students may also choose to pursue the nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Venue Management* with VMALI counting towards its completion.

Each year, top-performing students are eligible to receive scholarships sponsored by industry partners. The VMS USI (Ungerboeck) Bursary covers full student fees for Year Two of the VMS course and is awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic score on the test at the conclusion of Year One.

The AEG Ogden Scholarship Award is bestowed each year upon a student who successfully completes the two years of study at VMS and further demonstrates achievement in a range of assessment criteria.

The winner receives enrolment in the International Association of Venue Managers Graduate Institute at Oglebay, West Virgina in the USA and is also entitled to at least one venue visit in another city during the trip.

Graduates of the VMS and VMALI programs commonly go on to lead long and illustrious careers in the venue management industry.

Graduates have become chief executives, directors and senior managers of some of Asia-Pacific’s leading venues and sports including NRL and WAFL; ANZ, Optus and Hong Kong Stadiums; Brisbane and Adelaide Entertainment Centres; QPAC and Canberra Theatre; Brisbane Racing Club; Royal Adelaide Showgrounds; as well as Thailand and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centres. Venue management professionals are invited to join the growing VMS and LI alumni from across the Asia-Pacific region to increase their industry expertise and develop career-long relationships with students and instructors alike.
