Tourism sector welcomes launch of Bendigo Art Gallery's Mary Quant Exhibition

Locals and regional tourism businesses have enthusiastically welcomed Bendigo Art Gallery’s launch of its highly anticipated Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary exhibition.

Exclusive in Australia to the Bendigo Art Gallery, the exhibition which launched to the public on the weekend and runs until 11th July 11, 2021 comes directly from a sell-out season at London’s revered Victoria & Albert Museum

Fashion enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the iconic British fashion designer Dame Mary Quant, retrospectively exploring her influence on fashion between the years 1955 and 1975 – not just at the famed Bendigo Art Gallery – but all around Bendigo and surrounding townships as the region themes up restaurant, cafes, shopping strips and streetscapes in Mary Quant-style.

From large Quant inspired murals installed across the city, through to Mary Quant-themed daisy flower planter boxes, swinging street art and fashion trails, 60s exhibitions, to Quant inspired food such as Mary Quantsants (croissants) and Quantails (cocktails), 60s-inspired dishes at restaurants, high teas and even movies from the sixties era – as Bendigo explodes in Mary Quant style:

  • Mary Quantsants – themed croissants at Blue Bird Patisserie

  • Mary Quantails – themed cocktails at Bendigo’s famous The Dispensary and the Gallery Café

  • Harvest – Mod Mess dessert at the award-winning View Street restaurant

  • Star Cinema - 60s Movies screened at historic venue in Eaglehawk

  • The Woodhouse- the award-winning restaurant has created a 60s inspired dessert

  • Bendigo Pottery - visitors can paint their own Mary Quant daisy-inspired plate

  • Inglewood - the local township’s array of vintage shops has themed up their shop fronts in Mary Quant style

  • Mary Quant Themed Experiences and Accommodation Packages

A special Mary Quant-inspired mural – is now on show in the centre of Bendigo at the Piazza (Rosalind Park) – just down from the Bendigo Art Gallery for visitors to take some colourful Mary Quant themed photos.  Unveiled Friday 19th March for the launch of the Mary Quant exhibition - by Artist Bjarni Wark (aka Happy Decay) it is a massive circular artwork that takes over the entire main area of the Piazza with vivid and bold colours, the large circular artwork on the paving captures patterns associated with the sixties - paying homage to Mary Quant designs, including her iconic daisy, geometric and dot fashion favourites and popular cosmetic range.
