ACMI to manage Bendigo Creative Industries Hub
The team behind one of Melbourne’s leading creative institutions, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), has been announced as the new operator of the much-anticipated Bendigo Creative Industries Hub to life.
In addition to operating the world’s most visited museum dedicated to screen culture in Federation Square, ACMI runs creative industries co-working space ACMI X and a range of industry development programs.
ACMI will bring this experience to Bendigo Hub, to be located at the former Morley’s Emporium site on Mitchell Street, working with locals to create a co-working space and program tailored for the region’s creative practitioners and businesses. It will also bring unmatched expertise in creative entrepreneurship.
Recruitment has commenced for a Bendigo-based coordinator to manage the Hub’s operations and events program – ranging from forums and networking sessions to hands-on workshops and mentoring.
Through this partnership a hot desk will be available at ACMI X in Southbank for Bendigo-based creatives to use, while ACMI X’s Melbourne residents will also have access to space at the Bendigo Hub, providing opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Bendigo based firm e+ architecture will develop a design that will transform the long-vacant space into a co-working, events and community space that will be fully operational in early 2020.
While this takes place, Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Emerge Cultural Hub will move into part of the site and run skills development workshops for a diverse range of emerging artists as well as a retail space for participants to sell their works.
ACMI will develop and operate the Hub until October 2021, collaborating with a local advisory board to build a local team to take the reins from then.
Looking forward to managing the new facility, ACMI Chief Executive Katrina Sedgwick stated “we are eager to share the experience and skills we have learned running ACMI X in Southbank over the past three years, to strengthen and grow local capacity and innovation in the Bendigo creative industries.”
Applications for the Bendigo Creative Industries Hub Coordinator position close on 24th July.
