Tourism leaders gather in Perth
More than 400 tourism leaders from across the country, including representatives of major hotels, airlines, tourism products and international buyers, will gather in Perth this week for the annual Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) Meeting Place event.
Being held at Crown Perth & Hyatt Regency from today (20th November) to Wednesday 22nd November, this year’s Meeting Place will be the second time only the event has been held outside of Sydney in its 45 years of operation.
Looking forward to the event, ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley stated “Meeting Place provides a fantastic opportunity for a State to profile its tourism offering to a highly defined group of international tourism buyers who are key to selling tourism product to the world.“With around 1 million international visitors travelling to Western Australia every year and spending around $2.5 billion, export tourism is a valuable and growing part of the state’s economy.
“With the introduction of Qantas’ new direct Perth to London flights next year, now is the perfect time for the state to be showcased to the export tourism industry and Meeting Place provides a great platform for local tourism products to get noticed.”
Along with a conference program, Meeting Place will include more than 3,500 business to business appointments, a range of famil options around Perth, Fremantle and tours of some of Western Australia’s tourism highlights like cellar doors, scenic tours and skydiving.
Tourism WA Chief Executive Steve Wood said hosting events such as ATEC Meeting Place helped to raise awareness of Western Australia with key operators, adding “the event will not only showcase our tourism assets but will also get the message out that Perth is a vibrant, affordable destination, offering a range of high quality accommodation and visitor attractions.
“In addition, around 68 delegates will participate in a pre-familiarisation touring program, organised by Tourism WA, to gain first-hand knowledge of some of our extraordinary destinations such as Rottnest Island, Esperance, Exmouth, Albany, Broome and Kalbarri.”
