Thousands to flock to Augusta adventure race
Multisport and adventure race enthusiasts are set to descend on the Western Australian town of Augusta this weekend with more than 3,300 competitors set to compete in the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest.
Part of a fast growing number of adventure, mass exercise, multisport and obstacle events being held across the country, thousands of competitors will take part in this year’s two-day Augusta event, featuring ocean swimming, kayaking, trail running and mountain biking.
There is also the Augusta Junior Survivor race for children aged four to 13 years.
Commenting on what is widely recognised as the world’s biggest adventure race, acting Western Australian Tourism Minister John Day said regional events such as the Augusta Adventure Fest played an important role in the Western Australian Government’s strategy to increase the value of tourism to $12 billion by 2020.
Acting Minister Day stated “Tourism is vital for regional Western Australia. In the year ending June 2014, total visitor spend in the State was $8.3 billion, $3.5 billion of which was spent in regional WA."
Western Australian Regional Development Minister Terry Redman added “the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest is a fantastic event that helps promote Augusta as a tourist destination and ignites a real sense of community pride in the region.
“Regional events contribute to building sustainable communities by bringing people together to celebrate their town and boosting local economies through visitor spending.”
The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest will run on 1st and 2nd November 2014.
