Toughest event on the planet set to return to Sydney
Thousands are expected to descend upon the NSW Southern Highlands over the weekend of 15th and 16th November for the 2014 Tough Mudder Sydney challenge.
Billed as ‘Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet’ the third Tough Mudder Sydney event will present a diverse terrain filled with mud, deep gorges and thick bush,
Looking forward to the event, Tough Mudder General Manager – Australasia Jeremy Kann explained “we have been busy scouring the state for a new and improved location for Tough Mudder Sydney and we are extremely excited to unveil the Southern Highlands.
“Packed full of steep cliffs, rolling hills and thick Aussie bush, it is the perfect setting for us to take things to the next level.
“Our Course Designers have been hard at work designing and building new challenges and surprises to maximise this unique terrain and we can’t wait to unleash the new course. “Whether it’s your first or 10th event, Tough Mudder is always a challenging and rewarding experience – so gather your friends and family, and together unlock a sense of accomplishment unlike anything else.”
Founded in the USA in 2010, and operating in Australia since 2012, Tough Mudder is in the vanguard of the fast-growing adventure, obstacle, mass-exercise and multipsort events sector.
Tough Mudder has grown rapidly over the last four years – from three events in the USA in 2010, to over 50 events across the world in 2014 (with an expected 600,000 participants) – including six events in Australia and one event in New Zealand in 2014.
Co-founder Will Dean came up with the idea while at Harvard Business School. A regular marathon participant he was tired of the concept of ‘just running in a straight line’ and sought to tackle something that was more challenging and fun, that he could do with his friends.
Tough Mudder events are grueling 16 to 20 kilometre military-style obstacle course designed by British Army Special Forces to test all round strength, stamina, mental grit – while also building team spirit and camaraderie.
A typical event is lined with 20 military-style obstacles plus numerous hazards – packed full of hills, mud, water, ropes, walls and electric shocks designed to push participants to the limit.
The all new Sydney course will feature new obstacles including:
• Leap of Faith – a flying leap over a pit of water to a hanging cargo net
• Pole Dancer – cross a pit of water on two rails, using only upper body strength
• Hangin Tough – a series of roman rings above a pit of water
• Fire in Your Hole – an almost vertical 10 metre slide that shoots participant through a wall of fire and propels them the length of a bus into a pit of muddy water. (This is exclusive for repeat participants).
For many ‘Mudders’ (as event participants are known), Tough Mudder is more than just a weekend event – it’s a community dedicated to pushing boundaries, bringing out the best in one another and sharing new experiences with others.
Registrations for the Tough Mudder Sydney event are now open, with spectator tickets also available.
