Torakina Beach upgraded to deliver inclusive beach access

Reflections Holiday Parks has advised that the installation of connected concrete pathways and an all-abilities access mat at Torakina Beach in Brunswick Heads NSW will see thousands of people with mobility issues able to enjoy the water more easily this Summer.

Reflections Holiday Parks Chief Executive, Steve Edmonds said the ‘all-abilities’ beach access at Torakina was an important project for the community made possible by funding from Restart NSW.

Edmonds notes “we felt that an all-abilities beach access at Torakina was an important part of any upgrade along the Brunswick Heads Foreshore.

“Now, thanks to the NSW Government funding through the Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund, we have been able to improve the experience for everyone when they visit the beach with their families.”

Nationals Member of the Legislative Council Ben Franklin said this project will transform the way the community accesses the beach adding “the new pathways and Mobi-mat have made accessing the beach more inclusive for the whole community – and with summer fast approaching, the timing is perfect.

“For many people who use mobility devices such as wheelchairs or walking aids, joining with family and friends for a great day out at the beach can be a real challenge. However, with this initiative, people with wheelchairs, strollers and frames will now be able to join in all the fun right on the water’s edge.

“This project is just one part of the $1.2 million grant from the NSW Government through Restart NSW that is supporting upgrades at Torakina Reserve, Banner Park and Terrace Reserve.”

Other projects, which are part of the Brunswick Heads Foreshore Upgrade expected to be completed in 2021, include:

  • An upgraded playground at Banner Park

  • Repair of the revetment (sea) wall
