South Australia's Black Cliff Lookout now accessible for people with wheelchairs and prams

A new accessible trail at Hallett Cove Conservation Park is now open to those with wheelchairs and prams who want to take in the view from the Black Cliff Lookout.

The trail, just south of Adelaide, has been widened, gradients reduced and now has a smooth, non-slip bitumen surface that is suitable for assisted wheelchairs and prams.

The 550-metre trail, part of $140,000 in improvements being completed in the Park this year, starts at its entrance and ends at the Black Cliff Lookout.

The improvements at Hallett Cove Conservation Park are part of the South Australian Government’s $10.4 million investment in improving amenities at metropolitan parks.

Hallett Cove is of great significance as an archaeological site where Aboriginal artefacts have been uncovered, as well geologically with evidence of an ice age in Australia around 280 million years ago.

Commenting on the upgrade, South Australian Environment Minister Ian Hunter stated “w’re improving parks in the north and south of Adelaide so more residents can connect with nature.

“With this trail upgrade, more people will be able to enjoy the view from the top of Black Cliff and experience Hallett Cove’s unique geology.

“The health benefits of spending time in nature are well known, and I encourage as many people as possible to experience our parks.

“These park upgrades have been nearly three years in community consultation and planning, and it’s great to see them completed.”
