Victorian Government backs tourism in Geelong and the Bellarine
The Victorian Government has committed $275,000 towards the creation of the State's 11th Regional Tourism Board (RTB): Tourism Greater Geelong and the Bellarine.
Covering the area from Werribee to Barwon Heads, and including Bannockburn, Geelong and Portarlington, the new organisation will aim to increase local tourism and visitation, showcasing the region and attracting people from across Victoria and further afield.
Announcing the creation of the new RTB, Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren stated "we want to give Greater Geelong and the Bellarine’s tourism operators every opportunity to welcome more visitors, and for longer."
The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) has welcomed the move, with Chief Executive Dianne Smith stating “VTIC has consistently called on the government to recognise and provide funding for this vital organisation and we applaud this announcement.
“This is recognition of the organisation’s significance and the resultant funding will allow it to expand its efforts to grow tourism in the area.
“Greater Geelong and the Bellarine is one of the jewels in Victorian tourism’s crown and we will continue to support this organisation and local operators to grow our industry in the region.”
